The Latitude C540 is a Celeron-based laptop that was released in 2003. It is completely identical to the Latitude C640, and installing a Pentium 4M CPU in a C540 will make it report as a C640 in the BIOS.

The Varta NiMH CMOS battery in the C540 is highly prone to leaking and should be removed from every single C540 if original. The battery is under the keyboard. Unlike the C510, it isn't directly over the motherboard, but a leak will still cause corrosion around the battery connector.
The LCD lid latch mechanism on the C540 wears out easily and often stops working.
