WinBook XLi
The WinBook XLi was a Pentium II-based laptop released in April 1998. It was essentially a Pentium II spec-bump of the WinBook XL. The only differences design-wise are the following:
- ALL XLi laptops had 13.3" displays. You'll never see a 12.1" XLi.
- There are some slight styling differences, mainly with the indicator LEDs above the keyboard.
- The RAM door location on the bottom is different.
- Most notably, the rear display housing is modified a bit (you'd be able to tell in photos, if I had them, which I don't). This seems to reduce the housing stress-crack hinge failures the XL has, although I've seen one up for sale that had blown out standoffs on one side so DO NOT think the hinges are drama free on these. ALSO - I have seen at least one XLi that had the same display case plastics as the XL, so NOT ALL of them have the better design.
Like the XL, the XLi was based on a generic design from Twinhead - in this case the Slimnote EX2 (aka the P86E).

Common Faults & Maintenance
I don't have too much info on these laptops, but I can see one thing:
- The WinBook XLi suffers from hinge issues, just like the XL. The plastic around the hinge mounts will stress crack and fail. Epoxy may be able to fix this, but you'll probably also want to lubricate the hinges themselves.
