WinBook X4 - Common Faults and Maintenance
These aren't too old yet, so they don't have any catastrophic common issues. Here's the minor stuff:
- The power button and other shortcut keys on the "top bar" are not designed well. They rely on slightly bending thin plastic to actuate, and as such my power button has broken free over time. It still works as expected, but will fall out of the laptop if it is held in a way that it can do so.
- The finish on the palmrest area can wear off over time with use.
- The keyboard also appears to be particularly bad at holding up to wear. Many letters on my unit have worn off with not a terribly large amount of wear.
Yep, that's all. Otherwise, with my sample size of one, these systems are pretty well made. I have however yet to have seen a single WinBook laptop with a working battery. It's not uncommon at all to have a 20 year old battery fail, but not a single eBay listing I've seen mentions any sort of functioning battery. Perhaps they weren't made with the longest lasting cells compared to other brands.
