WinBook Simplifies WinBook XLi Series
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- February 1, 1999 -- WinBook Corporation announced today that it is repositioning its WinBook XLi presentation notebook series by eliminating a $2,599 model, and upgrading the processor on the $1,999 version from a 233 MHz mobile Intel Pentium II to a 300 MHz mobile Intel Pentium II. With this announcement, all WinBook products now feature 300 MHz or faster processors.
WINBOOK XLi 300 DESIGN FEATURES
The $1,999 WinBook XLi 300 is a three-spindle design offering users the convenience of a 20X maximum-speed CD-ROM, floppy drive, and 4.0 GB UltraDMA hard drive all present at once. It also includes 3-D graphics, expansive 13.3-inch XGA active-matrix display with 4MB SGRAM, 32MB of SDRAM, 9-cell NiMH Smart battery, and touchpad pointing device. Cardbus and zoomed-video support, software MPEG support, TV-out, and 16-bit stereo audio with built-in speakers and microphone are also standard.
The WinBook XLi 300 actually weighs less with the floppy, hard drive, and CD-ROM installed than many two-spindle designs without the floppy drive installed. In fact, two-spindle designs including the Compaq Armada 7800, Dell Inspiron 7000, Gateway Solo 9100, H-P Omnibook 7150, and Toshiba Tecra 780CDM all weigh more with only the hard drive and CD-ROM installed.1 Comparing travel weights including floppy drive, hard drive, CD-ROM, and AC adapter, the WinBook XLi 300 enjoys an even greater weight advantage. For example, the travel weight of the WinBook XLi 300 is a significant 1.3 pounds less than the Gateway Solo 9100.2
