COLUMBUS, Ohio--February 1, 1999--WinBook Corporation is pleased to announce that PC Magazine has awarded its coveted Editors’ Choice Award to the new WinBook XL 300 TFT, which goes on sale today. The new WinBook XL 300 TFT is the only notebook to receive the Editors’ Choice Award in the February 23 "Value Notebook" cover story. PC Magazine’s editors found that "the WinBook XL 300 TFT offers a terrific balance of features, performance, and price."

WinBook XL 300 TFT Features

PC Magazine recognized that the WinBook XL 300 TFT provides notebook users with all the features they need – "a 12.1-inch TFT screen, a 2GB hard disk, optional $199 lithium ion auxiliary battery, and 64MB of RAM." They were also impressed with the convenience of its three-spindle design which includes an "internal v.90 56K modem, floppy disk drive and a 20X CD-ROM drive, so you don't need to swap out drives."

DirectX 6 and OpenGL libraries optimized for the Mobile AMD K6-2 processor's 3DNow!™ technology allow users to fly through 3D environments with smooth imagery and realistic sound.

WinBook’s Leadership in Value Notebook Computers

As PC Magazine noted, the "ever-decreasing price" of the WinBook XL series "has redefined the market." In fact, WinBook pioneered sub-$1,000 notebooks in September, 1998. The secrets behind WinBook’s leadership in the value notebook segment include superior forecasting, purchasing and inventory management, direct distribution, and a unique WEB DEALÔ internet-only sales model on the WinBook XL series.

"Today, the mobile computing market belongs to companies with exceptional strength in forecasting, purchasing and inventory control systems. Declining component prices, coupled with WinBook’s just-in-time production and rapid inventory turnover enable us to give our customers the strongest notebook computer values in the U.S. market," said Richard Mershad, president of WinBook Computer Corporation.

WinBook’s direct distribution model also reduces costs through shipping products directly to customers from WinBook’s factory.

Finally, WinBook offers the WinBook XL 300 TFT through its WEB-DEALTM program. WinBook has discovered that customers prefer the convenience of being able to order a notebook computer via a secure website 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Offering the WinBook XL 300 TFT for $1,399 exclusively at www.winbook.com allows WinBook to reduce sales transaction costs and pass these savings on to WinBook customers.1
