introduces WinBook XLi 300:
Fastest WinBook ever features 300 MHz Intel Mobile Pentium II
COLUMBUS, OhioSeptember 9, 1998WinBook Corporation announced today its new top-of-the-line model the WinBook XLi 300. This new model features the blazing performance of the 300 MHz mobile Intel Pentium II processor.
The new 300 MHz Intel Mobile Pentium II processor
The new 300 MHz mobile Pentium II processor introduced today by Intel is the fastest mobile processor yet. Like the mobile Pentium II processors with 233 MHz and 266 MHz clock-speeds, the 300 MHz mobile Pentium II processor is fabricated on a 0.25 micron process, operates at 1.7 volts internally and 2.0 volts externally, and addresses system memory at 66 MHz. However, the new 300 MHz mobile Pentium II addresses L2 cache at 150 MHz; up from 133 MHz on the 266 MHz mobile Pentium II and 116 MHz on the 233 MHz mobile Pentium II. The result is a blazingly fast machine with true desktop performance for the most power-hungry mobile users.
WinBook XLi 300: Breakthrough Perfomance priced affordably
To take advantage of the performance of the new mobile Intel 300 MHz Intel Pentium processor, WinBook is equipping the new WinBook XLi 300 comprehensively, yet pricing it affordably at just $2,999. The WinBook XLi 300 comes standard with 64 MB of SDRAM, an enormous, exceptionally fast 6.0 GB Ultra DMA hard drive, and a brilliant 13.3-inch XGA (1024 x 768 resolution) active-matrix display with 3-D Graphics Accelerator and 4MB of SGRAM, for superior multimedia performance.
WINBOOK XLi 300 DESIGN FEATURES
Like other WinBook XLi models, the WinBook XLi 300 is a three-spindle design offering users the convenience of a CD-ROM, floppy drive, and hard drive all present at once. This gives users easy access to the complete functionality of their notebook computer at all times. It also alleviates the hassle of constantly swapping components and possibly losing or damaging them.
Despite the added convenience of a three-spindle design, the WinBook XLi 300 actually weighs less with the floppy, hard drive, and CD-ROM installed than many two spindle designs without the floppy drive installed. In fact, two-spindle designs including the Compaq Armada 7730MT, Gateway Solo 9100, H-P Omnibook 7100, and Toshiba Tecra 740CDT all weigh more with only the hard drive and CD-ROM installed.1 Comparing travel weights including floppy drive, hard drive, CD-ROM, and AC adapter, the WinBook XLi 300 enjoys an even greater advantage. For example, the travel weight of the WinBook XLi 300 is a significant 1.3 pounds less than the Gateway Solo 9100.2
Weight Comparison | Travelling weight with CD-ROM, floppy drive, hard drive and AC adapter (in pounds)2 |
Compaq Armada 7730 MT | 9.0 |
Gateway Solo 9100 | 9.7 |
H-P Omnibook 7100 | 9.5 |
Toshiba Tecra 740 CDT | 9.3 |
WinBook XLi | 8.4 |
Both a pointing-stick and touchpad are standard and simultaneously usable. Cardbus and zoomed-video support, software MPEG support, TV-out, and 16-bit stereo audio with built-in speakers and microphone are also standard.
A long-lasting nine-cell Lithium-ion battery is combined with low-voltage, high performance components and an advanced power management system (which includes LCD and hard-drive power-down functions, plus standby, suspend-to-disk, and suspend-to-RAM modes with automatic resume for fax/modem activity) to enhance battery life. This makes the WinBook XLi an excellent choice for when mobile users are away from an AC outlet and must rely on battery power.
