Launches WinBook XLi Series:
Fastest WinBooks Yet Feature Mobile Pentium®II
COLUMBUS, Ohio--April 10, 1998--WinBook Corporation announced today its new series of full-featured presentation notebooks the WinBook XLi. These high-end portable computers offer desktop-equivalent performance with Intel®s fastest mobile processor yet. Both WinBook XL models feature the 266 MHz mobile Intel®Pentium®II processor, 13.3" XGA active-matrix screen, integrated 16-bit stereo audio and 20X maximum speed CD-ROM. Yet fully equipped WinBook XLi models start at just $2,999. The new WinBook XLi models are currently shipping.

The new 266 MHz mobile Intel®Pentium®II processor offers desktop-equivalent performance, with speed gains of up to 50% in floating point calculations and significant improvements in MMX-enhanced functions compared to the 266 MHz Intel®Pentium®processor with MMX Technology. Both new WinBook XLi models are among the worlds fastest notebook computers available today. In addition to 266MHz mobile Intel®Pentium®II processors, these new WinBooks feature Intel®s 440BX PCI chipset, and offer up to 128MB of SDRAM.
All-In-One Design
The new WinBook XLi models are designed to offer a greater versatility and convenience than competing notebooks. Both incorporate a "three-spindle" design where the 20X maximum speed CD-ROM, floppy drive, and hard drive are all present at once, so there is no need to swap components. WinBook pioneered dual pointing devices in 1994, and includes both a standard pointing stick embedded in the keyboard and touchpad in the palmrest. Like all previous WinBooks with dual pointing devices, both the pointing stick and touchpad can be used simultaneously.

Both WinBook XLi models feature large 13.3-inch XGA (1,028-by-768) active-matrix color screens ideal for on-the-road presentations or graphics-intensive operations. WinBook XLis include the following multimedia features:

Communications
WinBook XLi models offer an available $159 56K Kflex internal fax modem which, unlike many competing notebooks, leaves the WinBook XLis one Type III or two Type II PCMCIA slots available for other purposes.
Battery
The WinBook XLi was designed to provide impressive battery performance with a 45 Watt/hour, 9-cell Lithium ion Smart Battery. Battery life is enhanced through the use of low-voltage, high performance components and an advanced power management system which includes LCD and hard-drive power-down functions, plus standby, suspend-to-disk, and suspend-to-RAM modes with automatic resume for fax/modem activity.
