COLUMBUS, Ohio -- March 2, 1998 -- WinBook Corporation announced today a new model in its WinBook XL series of full-featured presentation notebooks. Featuring the new 233 MHz AMD-K6 MMX mobile processor, the WinBook XL K6 233MMX offers outstanding performance at a very competitive $1,999 price. The WinBook XL K6 233MMX includes a 12.1-inch SVGA (800-by-600) active-matrix color screen.
In addition to the new 233MHz AMD-K6 MMX processor, the WinBook XL K6 233MMX includes 16MB of EDO RAM expandable to 128MB, 2 GB hard drive, integrated 16-bit stereo audio and 20X maximum CD-ROM. Utilizing an "All-in-One" design, the WinBook XL K6 233MMX incorporates both the CD-ROM and floppy drive in the unit at once.
AMD-K6 233MHz Processor
Highlights of the new AMD-K6 MMX 233MHz processor include superior performance due to AMD’s advanced, six-issue RISC86 superscalar monoarchitecture. While CISC-based (Complex Instruction-Set Computer) architecture has been used on Intel®processors through the 233 MHz mobile Pentium®Processor with MMX Technology (Tillamook), and is used on all Cyrix processors, RISC-based (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) architecture is used on both the AMD-K6 MMX and on Intel®Pentium®II processors. Existing socket 7 infrastructure accommodates the AMD-K6.
Outstanding Performance
The new WinBook XL K6 233MMX is one of the fastest 233MHz notebook computers available today. In addition to the 233MHz AMD-K6 MMX processor running at 2.5 volts, the new WinBook XL features the 430TX PCI chipset, 32MB of EDO RAM expandable to 128MB, and 256 Kb L2 Syncburst (pipeline-burst) cache.
