WinBook Launches 266 MHz WINBOOK XL Models: Priced To Move Faster Than Ever.

COLUMBUS, Ohio--January 12, 1998--WinBook Corporation announced today two new models in its WinBook XL series of full-featured presentation notebooks. These high-end portable computers offer an unprecedented level of performance with Intel®’s fastest mobile processor. Both WinBook XL models feature 32 MB of EDO RAM expandable to 128MB, 13.3" XGA active-matrix screen, integrated 16-bit stereo audio and 20X maximum speed CD-ROM. Yet 266 MHz WinBook XL’s start at just $2,999.

The 266 MHz Intel®mobile Pentium®processor with MMX Technology (Tillamook) offers the fastest mobile solution yet from Intel®. The new processor leverages Intel®’s .25 micron design and, while slower than Pentium®II desktops on floating-point and MMX applications, it closes the performance gap between notebook and desktop computers on the most popular software applications. Intel®announced the new chip today (January 12).

Unprecedented Performance

Both new WinBooks provide blazing performance and are among the world’s fastest notebook computers. In addition to 266MHz processors, these new WinBook XL features Intel®’s 430TX PCI chipset, and 32MB of EDO RAM expandable to 128MB.

Unprecedented Versatility

The new WinBook XL P266MMX models are designed for unprecedented versatility. Both incorporate a "three-spindle" design where the 20X maximum speed CD-ROM, floppy drive, and hard drive are all present in the unit simultaneously. WinBook pioneered dual pointing devices in 1994, and includes both a standard pointing stick embedded in the keyboard and touchpad in the palmrest. Like all previous WinBooks with dual pointing devices, both the pointing stick and touchpad can be used simultaneously.

Multimedia

Both 266 MHz WinBook XLs feature a massive 13.3-inch XGA (1,028-by-768) active-matrix color screen ideal for on-the-road presentations or graphics-intensive operations. All WinBook XL models include 2 MB video RAM, Zoomed video support, software MPEG support, NTSC video-out capability, and Soundblaster Pro-compatible 16-bit stereo audio with built-in speakers and microphone.
