WinBook FX With MMX, 3GB Hard Drive Now $3,999

COLUMBUS, Ohio--April 21, 1997--WinBook Corporation announced today a price drop on the flagship model of its top-of-the-line WinBook FX series. The new WinBook FX P166MMX is now $3,999, $600 less than before. Featuring the 166 MHz Intel®Pentium®processor with MMX technology as well as a 3 GB hard drive, the WinBook FX P166 MMX 48MB/3.0 GB model also comes standard with 48 MB of EDO RAM. A 12.1-inch SVGA active-matrix color display, 2 MB of video RAM, 256K Syncburst (pipeline burst) cache, PCI-bus architecture, 10X CD-ROM, and 33.6 Kbps internal fax/modem are also standard. WinBook FX models are also available with Intel®133 MHz and 150 MHz Pentium®processors.

The WinBook FX series offers superior value and performance in a full-featured multimedia notebook. All of the newly redesigned WinBook FX models feature a more comfortable Windows95 keyboard with full-sized keys and 3mm keyboard travel. WinBook FX prices start at $3,199 for the WinBook FX P133 16/1.4GB model equipped with 133 MHz Intel®Pentium®processor, 16 MB EDO RAM and 1.4 GB hard drive.

Keyboard And Pointing Devices

WinBook Corporation introduces its second-generation Windows95 keyboard on the new WinBook FX. Full-sized 19 mm keys replace the 18mm keys found on previous WinBook FX models. Keyboard travel has been increased to 3 mm. for greater comfort. The palmrest has been restyled to accommodate the new, larger 87-key keyboard and includes redesigned pointing-stick buttons or optional touchpad.

Like previous WinBook FX models, a dual-button pointing stick is standard, and a Touchpad is a $79.99 option. Both pointing devices can be used simultaneously.

Processor / RAM / Cache

WinBook designed the new FX to be among the fastest 166MHz MMX notebooks on the market today. The WinBook FX features the Intel® 430MX (Mobile Triton) PCI set, 166 MHz Pentium® processor with MMX technology, 256K L2 Syncburst (pipeline-burst) cache and 48 MB user-upgradeable EDO RAM (expandable to 80MB). The WinBook FX utilizes the low power consumption Intel®processors. Running at only 2.45 volts with 166MHz MMX or 2.9 volts with 150 MHz or 133 MHz, the Intel® Pentium®processors require less power without sacrificing any of their performance.

Modular Design

WinBook FX features a modular design for maximum flexibility. The options bay will accept either a 3.5" floppy drive, 10X CD-ROM (both standard), or an auxiliary 39 Watt, 2700 mA Lithium ion battery (optional).

Video

All WinBook FX models include a large 12.1" SVGA active-matrix display is driven by 2 MB of video DRAM. The display supports up to 800x600 resolution at 64,000 colors. The WinBook FX now uses the Chips and Technologies 65550 video chipset for enhanced video performance.

Battery

The new WinBook FX offers unprecedented battery performance with an impressive power output of approximately 100 Watts when the optional second lithium ion battery is installed. The FX comes standard with a 12-cell, 59-watt Lithium Battery with a built-in charge gauge. It also supports an optional 8-cell, 39 Watt Lithium ion battery located in the options bay.

Battery-life is also enhanced through the use of low-voltage, high-performance components and an advanced power-management system, which includes LCD and hard-drive power-down functions, plus stand-by and suspend-to-disk modes.

Multimedia

A fully-equipped multimedia system, the WinBook FX provides the 16-bit Creative Labs Vibra-16 Soundblaster-compatible stereo audio, a large 12.1" SVGA active matrix display with a PCI graphics accelerator, and a 10X CD-ROM drive on P166MMX models. Built-in stereo speakers provide an audio experience ideal for presentations to small and medium-sized groups.

Ports

The FX incorporates VGA; Parallel; Serial; MIDI/Game; combination PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports. Additionally, the FX includes 2-way infrared Data IrDA 1-compliant (115 Kbps) port for wireless data transfers between devices that conform to IDA standards, docking connector, microphone, and external headphone/speaker ports. The PCMCIA card slot will accommodate two TYPE II cards or one Type III and one TYPE II cards simultaneously. The PCMCIA slot is controlled by the Cirrus CL-PD6730 32-bit PCI local bus controller.
