WinBook LM: 40MB Of RAM Now Standard

COLUMBUS, Ohio--April 1, 1997--WinBook Corporation announced today the addition of 40 MB of RAM on its WinBook LM series. The LM is also the first WinBook with a 64-bit video accelerator and 128-bit graphics. The WinBook LM series is now sold directly through WinBook; previously it was available only through retailers.

WinBook Corporation designed the WinBook LM to offer superior performance at an affordable price. It features the 133 MHz Intel®Pentium®processor, 40 MB EDO RAM, 256K Syncburst cache, PCI-bus architecture, 1.4 GB hard drive, 12.1-inch SVGA active-matrix color display, and internal CD-ROM drive for only $2,999. Power is provided by a 9-cell Lithium Ion Smart Battery, plus an optional second Lithium Ion battery, which fits in the options bay. Of course, the new WinBook LM is designed for Windows95.

Processor / RAM / Cache

The new WinBook LM achieves blazing performance with Intel®’s 430MX PCI set, 133 MHz Pentium®processor, 256K L2 Syncburst (pipeline-burst) cache and 40MB user-upgradeable EDO RAM.

Modular Design

WinBook LM features a modular design for maximum flexibility. The options bay will accept either a 3.5" floppy drive, internal CD-ROM, or a second Lithium Ion battery.

Video

The WinBook LM provides superior video performance. The large 12.1" SVGA active-matrix display is driven by the Neo-Magic 128-bit graphics accelerator and supports up to 800x600 resolution at 64,000 colors.

Battery

The new WinBook LM offers outstanding battery performance with the option of a second lithium ion battery. A 9-cell, 45-watt Lithium Ion Battery with built-in charge gauge is standard. The unit also supports an optional 9-cell, 42-watt Lithium ion battery located in the options bay. With both batteries installed, the WinBook LM provides full APM compliance and an impressive power output of 87 watts, second only to our top-of-the line WinBook FX series.

Battery-life is also enhanced through the use of low-voltage, high-performance components and an advanced power-management system, which includes LCD and hard-drive power-down functions, plus stand-by and suspend-to-disk modes.

Multimedia

A fully-equipped multimedia system, the WinBook LM provides 16-bit stereo high-fidelity audio support and Soundblaster-Pro compatibility, a large 12.1" SVGA active matrix display with 128-bit graphics accelerator, PCI video support, and CD-ROM drive. Built-in stereo speakers provide an audio experience ideal for presentations to small and medium-sized groups.

Ports

The WinBook LM incorporates VGA; Parallel; Serial; combination PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports. Additionally, the unit includes 2-way infrared Data IrDA 1-compliant (115 Kbps) port for wireless data transfers between devices which conform to IrDA standards, docking connector, microphone, and external headphone/speaker ports. The PCMCIA card slot will accommodate one TYPE III card or two TYPE II cards.

Keyboard And Pointing Device

The WinBook LM keyboard has 87 keys and is a Windows95 specific keyboard. It has 3 mm. of up-and-down keyboard travel and full-sized 19 mm. keys for greater typing comfort. The unit is the first WinBook designed with a standard dual-button touchpad centered in the palmrest; other WinBook models have a standard pointing-stick and offer a touchpad as an extra-cost option.
