October 2, 1995 WINBOOK XP5:
PENTIUM, LITHIUM, 16MB, ACTIVE MATRIX
$2999

Columbus -- WinBook Computer Corporation announced today the newest addition to the WinBook line.

The WinBook XP5 packages the Intel Pentium 75 MHz LM processor, 16 MB RAM, 810 MB hard drive, 10.4" active matrix color screen, 256 K L2 cache, internal 14.4 fax modem, and 40 Watts per hour Lithium ion batteries at the market-shattering price of $2,999. The XP5 retains the award winning design of the XP model, with sloping wrist rest and choice of three pointing devices. The WinBook XP has received 17 awards from leading computer magazines, including PC Magazine's Editors Choice , PC World's Best Buy, and Byte magazine's Best Value award.

The combination of Intel's LM Pentium processor, L2 cache, and Lithium ion batteries provide the XP5 with superior performance. The LM processor allows for longer battery life by reducing the processor's power consumption. The L2 cache significantly improves speed. The Lithium ion battery is lighter and more powerful than conventional NiMH batteries. The battery, consisting of nine 4/3 A cells in an easy to install package, provides an impressive 40 Watts per hour of power.

The WinBook XP5 features the Chips and Technologies 32-bit Local Bus video accelerator, and 1 MB video RAM. Hard drives are user-upgradable with capacities of up to 810 MB (over one gigabyte hard drives available in the 4th quarter of 1995). The XP5 includes a removable hard drive, one PCMCIA Type III or two PCMCIA Type II slots, and a 19.5 mm Lexmark keyboard. Other features include available internal stereo audio, dual speakers, and a standard internal 14.4 send/receive fax/voice/data modem. No other notebook computers offer as many features at such aggressive prices. While the WinBook XP5 is heavily equipped, the unit's weight is commendably light - a mere 6.1 lbs.

The WinBook XP and XP5 are the only notebook computers to offer a choice of pointing devices. Customers can select either the standard Lexmark pointing stick, an optional $29.95 Logitech 19 mm trackball centered in the palmrest, or an optional $79.99 Alps touchpad centered in the palmrest. Each integrated pointing device was ergonomically designed for unsurpassed comfort.

A 4X CD-ROM docking station is available, priced at just $399. The docking station has two ISA slots, dual 5.25" bays, auto detect for external pointing devices, VGA, stereo output and volume control. The docking station supports the use of internal and external keyboards simultaneously. An external 2X CD-ROM with SCSI adapter is offered for $199. It includes headphones, SCSI adapter, AC adapter, PCMCIA Card, and carrying case.

WinBook Computer Corporation sells the WinBook XP5 directly at (800) 468- 2162.
