Welcome to the ECS Homepage on MacDat!

Elitegroup Computer Systems is a computer hardware company based in Taiwan. They merged with Alpha-Top Corporation in August, 2001, after which they continued Alpha-Top's "Green" series of laptops, along with introducing the DeskNote/iBuddie series of laptops, both in 2002. ECS manufactures laptops to this day, but this page will for now only extent up through around 2007/2008. I'm currently only listing the Green series laptops here, but others will be added soon.

Own a ECS laptop? I'm in need of information on many models, along with images. See this page for info on how to reach me.

Model List of ECS laptops (sorted by name)

Green220

  • Processor: Intel Pentium M
  • Sold As/By: Unknown
  • Full Specs

Notes

Small 12.1" LCD ultralight. Claims to be "the first ever notebook with 1.3-mega pixel cmos camera built-in". No clue if that's true or not. It certainly is early for a laptop with a webcam though.

Green320

  • Processor: VIA C3 Nehemiah
  • Sold As/By: Frys' Electronics "Great Quality" brand, Patriot
  • Full Specs

Notes

This one looks to have the same/similar case to the earlier Green720 but with a VIA C3 Nehemiah CPU instead of anything by Intel or AMD.

Green550

Notes

More of a "thin and light" than a subnotebook like the 500 and 510 were. This was the first of many times ECS would use this base design. I can't blame them for reusing it, it's pretty decent. Looks nice in my opinion, and it's built decently well. I do own a WinBook X4, so I have a good bit of experience with this one.

Green551

  • Processor: Intel Pentium M
  • Sold As/By: Unknown
  • Full Specs

Notes

Seemingly about the same design as the G550, but with Pentium M processors instead of the P4M, and dedicated graphics. Should in theory run quieter and cooler as a result. My WinBook X4 (G550) isn't especially loud, but it does always run the fan.

Green553

  • Processor: Intel Pentium M
  • Sold As/By: Unknown
  • Full Specs

Notes

Looks pretty similar to the G551 specs wise but missing some of the high end features. The main difference appears to be some minor changes to the plastic case, probably to help local distributors not sell identical looking laptops.

Green556e

  • Processor: Intel Pentium M
  • Sold As/By: Unknown
  • Full Specs

Notes

More minor design alterations from the looks. These also have dedicated ATI Graphics. The last from the 550 series to have the G/Green name, although they'd go on to make the 557 and 558 (at least, not sure if there are more) that dropped the G and thus are out of scope of this section. I may document them in the future though.

Green713

  • Processor: AMD Athlon XP
  • Sold As/By: Unknown
  • Full Specs

Notes

This one appears to share the design of the Intel-based Green733, which I was already familiar with prior to researching this model. If it is just like that one, it's gonna be a pretty bulky desktop replacement.

Green730

  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4
  • Sold As/By: WinBook J4

Notes

This was the first of the 730-series of Pentium 4 desktop replacements. These use hot-running desktop chips. No ECS page on this laptop got properly saved by the Wayback machine so you're gonna have to go to the linked WinBook J4 pages or the orphanlaptops link below for more info.

Image is of a WinBook J4 - which could have either been a G730, G731, or a G732. I know this one pictured is a G730 because the G730 was the only one of the series to ship with a trackpoint stick in the keyboard.

Green731

Notes

The G731 is a lower-end model that lacks some of the high-end graphics, display, and other features that the others have.

I once again couldn't find any working spec links from ECS for this one, so the image is of a WinBook J4 - which could have either been a G730, G731, or a G732. I know this one pictured is a G731 it doesn't have the front multimedia buttons, which the G731 lacks.

Green732

Notes

The G732 is a high-end model, just like the G730, but updated to support newer processors. The black color you see in the photo isn't unique to this one, to my knowledge, all the G73x laptops were available in both color schemes.

Green733/733E/733G

Notes

To my knowledge, these should share most internal parts with the others. However, the external design differs significantly. ECS records state that there was a G733, G733E, and G733G. I have specs for the regular and the E, but not the G yet. Not sure what all the differences are.

Green736

  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4
  • Sold As/By: Gericom
  • Full Specs

Notes

The last and most powerful of the series. Supports higher end CPUs than previous models.

Green900

  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4
  • Sold As/By: Gericom Cinema XXL
  • Full Specs

Notes

I don't know much about this one. Appears to be an ultra-high end unit.

This section is currently unfinished. I think there were a couple more ECS Green laptops that I haven't gone through yet, that I still need to add.
