Dell Latitude L400

Dell Latitude L400

12.1" Pentium III Ultralight/Subnotebook, released in 2001. This machine was manufactured by Quanta, and Gateway sold a very similar model.

The L400 was also sold with altered styling as the Inspiron 2100.

Common Faults & Maintenance

CMOS Battery Leaks

The Varta NiMH CMOS battery in the L400 is highly prone to leaking and should be removed from every single L400 if original. As it is placed directly over the motherboard, even a small leak will be catastrophic.

Hinge Covers

I've seen many of these up for sale with broken plastic on the hinge covers, so it's a likely cosmetic weak point on these.
