Common Faults & Maintenance

CMOS Battery Leaks

The C810's CMOS Battery is a 6-cell VARTA NiMH pack, located under the palmrest on the right side. This type of battery leaks nearly 100% of the time, and will easily cause damage to surrounding components if left unchecked. If you own a C810, remove this battery ASAP, and think carefully before buying one that doesn't work off eBay. This battery is a likely culprit. As of writing (in 2024), the C810 isn't quite old enough to have had most of them die from this battery, but if you're reading this 5 or more years from now, it's likely that a majority of unserviced units will be dead. The first parts to break will likely be the trackpad, as the battery in the C810 connects to the trackpad ribbon cable. If you see a C810 with a bad trackpad, keep this in mind!
