The AST Ascentia 500S is a 486-based subnotebook announced by AST in August 1994, with them stated to begin shipping in September the same year. After this point, the 500S appears to have disappeared just a few months later, with no clear indication that it ever shipped. AST never had support docs up for it either. My guess is that it was cancelled for one reason or another.
I'm about 95% sure this laptop was manufactured by Quanta, given the design is incredibly similar to the Quanta-produced 800N and 810N. The keyboard also looks exactly like Quanta's keyboards from the time.
