Macintosh Quadra 660av Issues

PRAM Battery leaks

The 1/2AA Lithium barrel battery used for keeping track of PRAM settings on the logic board is prone to leaking. Several brands were used, but all will leak with age. These leaks can be absolutely catastrophic, with extremely severe corrosion being common. In most of these cases, the board is unrecoverable. So, remove those batteries!

Leaky caps

The 660av's logic board has a bunch of surface mount electrolytic capacitors on it, and they will always leak and start slowly eating away at the logic board. They will need to be replaced. Head on over to the resources page for this model for a link to capacitor reference information for this model.

Power Supply Failure

Old Mac PSUs are failing more than ever before nowadays. Usually it's bad capacitors, but sometimes other stuff goes too. If you have a dead 660av PSU, give it a recap and see if that brings it back, then replace if necessary.
