There were four revisions of the PowerBook G3, spanning from 1997 to 2001. Select one from the table below for more details.
PowerBook G3 "Kanga" |
PowerBook G3 "Wallstreet" and "PDQ" |
---|---|
Released: November, 1997 Discontinued: May, 1998 The Kanga was essentially just a PowerBook 3400c with a G3 shoehorned into it. There are a few other differences internally but they're very similar inside and look identical on the outside. |
Released: May, 1998 (Wallstreet), September 1998 (PDQ) Discontinued: August 1998 (Wallstreet), May 1999 (PDQ) The Wallstreet PowerBooks brought a new design and features that were more in line with Apple's new design language. In September 1998, the Wallstreet was replaced with the "PDQ" (Pretty Darn Quick), which was essentially just a speed-bump of the Wallstreet. |
PowerBook G3 "Lombard" |
PowerBook G3 "Pismo" |
Released: May, 1999 Discontinued: February, 2000 The Lombard included faster processors than the PDQ, and also featured a refreshed design. It remained very visually similar to the Wallstreet and PDQ, but was thinner. It also introduced the translucent bronze keyboard and USB. |
Released: February, 2000 Discontinued: January, 2001 The Pismo was the final G3 PowerBook revision. Apple also dropped the G3 name from this one, just calling it the "PowerBook (FireWire)". As the name implies, this one added FireWire. It also had faster processors and other improvements. It was also the first to support AirPort. |
