The build quality on these laptops is good and seeing one with a busted hinge is rare.
The T1900 and T1900C have an internal NiMH reserve battery that is prone to leaking and should be removed. I believe it is located in the front middle of the system.
The T1900 and T1900C must have their DC/DC board and motherboards recapped in order to work reliably. Many online sources advise you to only replace one 1000uf capacitor (that has been prone to failing since as early as the mid 2000s...), but at this point, they're all going bad and leaking. Take care to also replace the "imposter tantalum" caps - that is, plastic-cased low profile caps that are actually electrolytics - as well. The LCD and inverter board may also need recapping.
