The Nan Tan 5500 (aka the FMA5500) is a 486-based generic/ODM laptop that was released in around mid 1992. There were four revisions of this laptop - the 5500, 5500SX, 5500CD, and the 5500CDX. I don't know what was different between each revision, but there were two slightly different versions of the design. One version has the display controls to the right of the LCD (pictured to the right) and the other has them below the LCD (pictured further down on the page). The "CD" versions definitely didn't have CD-ROM drives built-in.
I've never actually seen one of these for sale, but I can confirm it is the Nan Tan 5500 via review coverage in a 1993 issue of Computer Shopper. Versions of this laptop from three brands (AMS, BSI, and Santron) were reviewed, and the review stated that Nan Tan was the manufacturer of this laptop. The 5500 was the only remaining model from this time that appeared in FCC records, but had no other known info, and Santron literally called theirs the 5500C, so this is the Nan Tan 5500.
