Kapok 6000 Series

Kapok 6000 Series

The Kapok 6000 Series are a line of desktop replacement laptops that were first released in 1996. These were generic/ODM laptops, meaning that they were sold via wholesale to other companies who would brand and resell them. The Kapok 6000s were very popular and were sold by well over a dozen brands.

There were three revisions in the series - the 6000 Series, 6000A Series, and 6000M Series. The 6000A may have been the first one as the 6000 seems to be a cost-cut version of it - that, or they released at the same time. The 6000M came later, appears to be less common, and used MMC1 processor modules rather than Socket 7.

Model numbers in the series include the 6100, 6200, and 6300. If they have an "A" or "M" at the end of the model number, they're that respective version. An exception to this rule is a "6200D" that was an 6000A. There are also models ending in "T" (6200AT being one), so I'd expect that the D and T indicate screen type, but the 6200D has a TFT screen.
