Jetta Jetbook 386SX
One of Jetta's earliest laptops, and their only 386 as far as I know. It's very much an 80s-style designed system, huge and bulky. Not exactly something you'd want on your lap. I unfortunately don't have any specsheet for this one, just don't have the info. You can find photos of it here.
Common Faults & Maintenance
I can't give the full picture of what can go wrong with one of these without owning one myself, or having any other online documentation on them for that matter. Still, I have been able to find a few things.
- The AC Adapters for these get so hot that they melt. Every one of them I've seen in online listings has in one area. A modern replacement looks like it will be required for one of these. It appears to be a split design with two 6V rails, 2A and 1A max respectively. One likely used for main power and the other for the battery. It also uses a proprietary DIN connector. Due to these reasons, you're best bet for replacement is to remove the connector wire from the old supply and solder it up to a modern 6V supply. Hardest part would be figuring out the pinout.
- Original AC Adapter appears to have two part numbers on it. They are: JETBOOK-AP302 and UCT-819795. The second one is likely the original part number from the supplier that made the adapters for Jetta, Union Circle Technique CO., LTD. The same supplier also made the Jetta 486SLC/C2 supplies, which seem far more reliable.
- These appear to use NiCad CMOS batteries, which means that a leak is likely. Remove it ASAP and keep the possibility of damage in mind before you buy one.
- The hinges may have issues. One I saw in photos looked weird in that area, possibly like it may have had a plastic break. Unsure though and I'd need more data to be sure.
