IBM ThinkPad 330C/330CS

IBM Type 5523

The ThinkPad 330C and 330CS were a pair of 486-based laptops that were released exclusively in Japan. The passive matrix 330CS released first, in November 1993, then the active matrix 330C was launched in May 1994.

These models have no TrackPoint, a gray case, and shipped with an internal AC adapter instead of a battery. A battery was offered, but is very rare.

Common Faults & Maintenance

The internal PSU module for the 330C/CS suffers from leaking electrolytic capacitors and must be recapped for reliable operation. Beyond this, I don't know what else fails in these.
