The Gateway2000 ColorBook was a 486-based laptop that was released around August/September 1993, and sold throughout the next year or so. They were pitched as a low-cost color series of notebooks, and none of them every shipped with active matrix displays. ColorBooks shipped with CPUs as slow as a 486SX-25, and as fast as a 486DX4-75. They also had a built-in trackball which popped out of the front.
The ColorBook used a proprietary 3-pin power connector, so if you are buying one today, make sure you can find a charger available elsewhere if it's not included. The ColorBook and ColorBook2 use nearly the same connector, but they are keyed differently and they don't use the same charger.
