The Dual SKD-4000 is a 486-based generic/ODM laptop that was released around June 1993. The SKD-4000 has a very modular design. The top right of the system has an expansion bay that could fit several modules, a trackball being the most common.
This laptop was sold under many names, but Dual Technology Corporation is the original manufacturer.
There were at least two major hardware revisions of this laptop. The most notable change of the second revision design was the addition of an Analog Devices SoundPort sound system, including audio jacks and an external CD-ROM connector. To my knowledge, this sound system is not SoundBlaster compatible (WSS only). The second revision also adds a very strange TrackPoint implimentation, with the pointing stick being located in the middle of the right side of the spacebar, inside the key itself. Overall, a very strange laptop.
