The Latitude C500 is a Celeron-based laptop that was released in May 2001. It is completely identical to the Latitude C600, and installing a Pentium III CPU in a C500 will make it report as a C600 in the BIOS. The one other hardware difference is that the C500 was available with a 12.1" screen, although such models are quite uncommon.

The Varta NiMH CMOS battery in the C500 is highly prone to leaking and should be removed from every single C600 if original. The battery is under the RAM door on the bottom of the laptop. As it is placed directly over the motherboard, even a small leak will be catastrophic.
The LCD lid latch mechanism on the C500 wears out easily and often stops working.
