Thermal Issues and Failure

The Inspiron 5160's cooling system was poorly designed, and as a result, they have very high failure rates. Many of them are just dead now as they've baked themselves to death over time. I currently am not sure exactly what fails, but I'd guess it's probably something related to the lead-free solder issues of the time, combined with the bad thermals. If you own a working one, take extra care to replace the thermal paste and clean the heatsink and fan regularly.
