The Chicony MP980 is a unique widescreen subnotebook, based on Pentium MMX "Tillamook" CPUs. It used a 10.4-inch widescreen LCD with an odd 1024x600 resolution - slightly higher vertically than a true 16:9 aspect display, which would be 1024x576. It's the earliest widescreen laptop that I know of, ignoring some of the weird wide-but-not-tall displays that many 80s "laptops" used.
According to orphanlaptops, the MP980 wasn't sold in the US by any brand.
